Rick Leone, DVM
Rick T. Leone D.V.M. was born in southeastern Colorado in 1962 and was involved heavily in 4-H and ranching at an early age. He demonstrated an innate love for animals, whether domestic livestock or wildlife. He wasn't interested in it as a child unless it was an animal! In 1988, he graduated cum laud from Colorado State University with his degree in veterinary medicine. After two years practicing in northeast Nebraska he returned to Colorado to build a mixed animal practice and manage the family's ranching operation. Being located in southeastern Colorado provides Dr. Leone a great relationship with many working ranches and a very grounded approach to veterinary medicine.
He operates a state-of-the-art practice and performs advanced reproductive services including embryo transfer on cattle, horses, and small ruminants. He also rides, and has shown in reined cow horse and ranch horse versatility. Dr. Leone has a special interest in the western performance horse and relishes the challenges associated with resolving performance issues related to lameness in these elite athletes.
Rick completed two 4 year terms on the Colorado State Board of Veterinary Medicine, most recently serving as President. In the past, he has served in the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association in various capacities. He has served many organizations including the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association, the American Shorthorn Association, and the Rocky Mountain Shorthorn Association. He and his wife Trish, have two children.
